The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced a new pilot fatigue rule that will govern how much time off commercial pilots must have between shifts. The reason for the new rule is to make certain that commercial passenger pilots have an opportunity for ample rest prior to entering the cockpit of an aircraft. The new FAA rules sets a ten (10) hour minimum rest period prior to a flight duty period, a two (2) hour increase over old rules. Transportation Secretary, Ray LaHood stated that, "that is a major safety achievement."
