New Year Drunk Driving Dangers Exist

As 2012 approaches, many folks will be traveling Texas roadways going to see family, attending get-togethers, and ringing in the New Year with parties. It is well known that this time of year is a time of year where drunk driving is on the rise. Last year, more that 12,000 people were killed in crashes involving blood alcohol limits greater than the legal limit of .08. Sadly, Texas generally leads all of our nation’s states in alcohol related vehicle crashes. About every 20 minutes in Texas…someone is hurt or killed in a crash involving alcohol. One crash is simply too many!

If you are going to celebrate the New Year, keep the following in mind:

-Never drink and drive;

-Never let anyone who you think has had too much to drink drive;

-If you need a ride after drinking, call a cab. Many cab companies have discounted or even free rides for New Year’s party-goers;

-Make plans for your event early. Designate a friend to stay sober and take on driver duties.
